Stay tuned. It's only a 6 week wait this time. The last two were year+ waits.

dat profit for other people's impatience
![]() 03/21/2015 at 18:46 |

What has that kind of wait time? I'm guesstimating Ferrari or Alfa 4c.

I will admit, the Range Rover would be my preference over the i8. Shame you're getting it after winter ends and there'll be no snow drifting until next year.

Range Rover SVR
Made aware my dealer's only allocation for the year was free a week before options were frozen and production began.

Buying a Range Rover will ensure we don't see snow where I live for years to come.

Wow, I didn't think that demand would be that high for it. Is it a limited production model, or is demand really through the roof?

With their reliability, it might also mean that you'll never see your destination.

Each dealer in the US is getting one this year so around 200.

since Tata took over reliability has been a lot better. Didn't have a single issue with my 2010 and 2012 Range Rove sports
![]() 03/21/2015 at 19:14 |

So wait - you sold the current (sorry) one and are buying another?
![]() 03/21/2015 at 19:15 |

Just out of curiosity, how many miles did you put on it?
![]() 03/21/2015 at 19:17 |

The i8 is gone?
![]() 03/21/2015 at 19:18 |

Pretty sure I called this. =) How much did you net?
![]() 03/21/2015 at 19:19 |

Oh sweet. That means I'll get to drive one at some point, whenever it arrives at the dealership. I'll ask my boss if he knows anything about it on Monday.

As someone who works at a Land Rover dealership, I can tell you for a fact that these things are reliable. Anything made before 2010 is questionable, though.

Broke even. Would have probably made a profit if I hadn't made it the highest mileage i8 in the country. But what's the point if you don't drive a car?
![]() 03/21/2015 at 20:00 |
|
That's definitely a fair amount haha
What ultimately made you decide to sell though? just time for something different?
![]() 03/21/2015 at 20:05 |

too bad more owners don't have your mindset. I assume the SVR will have a healthy amount of miles as well? Did you get it in Blue cause that blue is awesome

Still haves the SLS I'm guessing?
If yes, is there anything that you might consider replacing it with? (Since, you know, I don't have anywhere close to that kind of money it's fun to talk with those that do and get their insight into a world of cars I can only dream about)
Thanks for sharing with Oppo.

Don't ever change BTU

Just thought I'd say thank you for being part of my inspiration to (attempt to) work hard. :P

You sold the i8?

Finally, proof! Tata's make things better!

Hard work sucks, no doubt...but you forget about how much it sucks the first time you buy what you couldn't have gotten any other way.

Wow...that was quick...you should do a write up on "Why I Sold My i8 After Owning For Less Than A Year." That would be a cool read.

What really sucks is paying back loans. Makes me feel like I won't have much left over for toys if my future goes as planned/hoped.
How did you do it, if you don't mind me asking?
![]() 03/21/2015 at 20:58 |

It's far better to work diligently in a field that's ludicrously financially rewarding, like private wealth management or yacht sales.

Jumping out of a supercar into 1 of 200 Range Rovers.
The envy is real.

Working on a write up about it, how amazing it was and why that was a good reason to get rid of it.

AMG GT S please.

5080 miles is "high mileage"?! If you'd kept it, how many years/miles would a warranty on an i8 cover?
![]() 03/22/2015 at 00:30 |
|
High mileage for an i8, they've only been in the US for 6 months, and in my case it spent two of those in a garage due to weather. The battery pack is 10 years/unlimited miles and the car gets the usual 4 year, 50k mile warranty.

I'm working on a write-up about it for later. A lot of things rubbed me the wrong way, almost nothing to do with the car itself. Mostly the attention was way beyond irritating. The gap between the levels of attention you get in an i8 compared to the SLS is larger than the gap in attention between the Fiesta and the SLS. Walking out to find no one taking a picture or a group conversing about the car was rare. People at gas stations would step out in front as I was leaving to take pictures and wave me down to talk when I was obviously trying to leave. Getting out of the i8 makes getting out of the SLS feel as easy as falling off a ladder. The whole communication issue with BMW from the date of announcement in Sept. 2013 where they said it would be out in Jan/Feb to the actual release in very late Sept/early October was a clusterfuck. The order/option guide for the US came out in early July, literally 10 days from the start of production, then they ran out of the package they wanted 90% of cars to come with, etc, etc. But the car itself is great. I'll might buy another when they actually let me order it with a black interior, add the keyless locking/unlocking that my Fiesta ST comes with standard, add blind spot detection for some of the biggest c-pillars in the industry, add the adaptive cruise the i3 comes with, and all the improvements they'll make over the years.

Sounds like it wasn't quite fully baked.
![]() 03/22/2015 at 09:26 |

That's the best color combo for the i8. Its the only color I wanted but a guy in my car club got that color scheme when BMW sold out the first time. I tempted wait until September to buy a used one and do a custom all pearl white paint job.

It felt like they intentionally left out features they already had ready to be able to add to later model years, taking a page from the Apple play book. They already added keyless entry to the 2015 models and all the hardware for adaptive cruise is present. Again, I'll reinforce it with the article but the vacuum of information between announcement and orders opening up was like nothing I've ever seen.

I feel ya, knee deep in educational loans as well. I've spoken to many folks (engineers, doctors) in the same situation, some with 3-4X my debt amount. They all recommend a balance of paying loans off and enjoying the present.
Living on ramen and taking the bus to work might help you pay off all your loans a few years early, but at what price. I struck a balance. Making a dent in my principal while living a decent lifestyle.
